Balck Coffee is a micro roastery located in Kalmar on the Swedish east coast. Here they have both their roastery, and a cozy coffee shop located on storgatan 8 in the city center. They source their coffee beans from individual farmers or cooperatives, without using any middlemen, and the relationship is built on; transparency, sustainability, and quality.

For example, they regularly visit the coffee farmers on their farms to jointly develop the farming methods, post-harvest process, and overall quality. By paying several times more than the commodity market price, they also enable economically and socially sustainable coffee production.

The coffee is then roasted carefully to develop its natural taste profile.

The man who started the coffee roastery is Johan Björklund, passionate coffee lover and entrepreneur. In the autumn of 2013, Johan continued a 100-year-old craft tradition in Västerås when starting Björklund Kafferosteri. His philosophy is to challenge people’s perception of how a good cup of coffee can and should taste.

Cozo Coffee, from Örebro, was founded by Oskar Cedermalm after he for many years had toured around the world with his band Truckfighters and always had trouble finding really good coffee. That´s when the idea of getting involved in the coffee industry, by starting to roast coffee, slowly took form.

The philosophy is simple: to buy the best coffee beans, sometimes directly from individual farmers or cooperatives, but also from big importers. What they all have in common is that the green bean need to be of the absolute best quality. For Oskar it is also important to work with people who share the same values as him regarding human and environmental ethics.
